Master Gardener Training To Be Held Online This Fall

Orange City, Iowa — Iowa State University (ISU) Extension and Outreach Sioux County will offer Master Gardener training online this fall for individuals who are passionate about serving their communities and sharing gardening best practices.

Master Gardener Training participants will expand their gardening knowledge and be equipped with tools and resources to be effective community volunteers. Applicants must apply for the training before the class begins and complete the online sessions held by the county office. All classes will be held online due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We have really enjoyed offering the Master Gardener training as a hands-on experience for the past few years,” said Susan DeBlieck, Master Gardener state coordinator with ISU Extension and Outreach. “While we’ll miss out on some of the hands-on learning, participants will still get to connect with people and resources in their community.”

Selected applicants must pay the class fee, which is due before classes start; complete 40 hours of plant education offered in the fall; and complete a 40-hour volunteer internship by the end of 2021.

Local classes will be held online on Mondays beginning Aug. 31 and ending Nov. 9. Some of the sessions will include hands-on take-home activities, virtual field trips to local sites and presentations from industry experts.

Sioux County is offering the Master Gardener training at the reduced rate of $125, which is a $70 discount from the program’s $195 fee.
