Medicare Open Enrollment Period Open Until December 7th; Free Help Available

Northwest Iowa — If you want to make changes to your Medicare coverage, now is the time to do it.

Each year, there’s an open enrollment period for Medicare.

Carol Brinkert is a volunteer with the Senior Health Insurance Information Program, or SHIIP (pronounced “ship”). She tells us about “SHIIP.”

She says it’s easy for the volunteers to help you.

Brinkert tells us she helps people who live in O’Brien County, but the help is available to anyone who lives in Iowa by contacting the office in your county or by calling the state office, who can tell you who to call.

Again, the O’Brien County number is 712-957-5579 (please leave a message), and the state office can be reached at 800-351-4664. The open enrollment period is open from now through December 7th. (It started on October 15th.) Brinkert tells us that those who help are volunteers and their services are completely free of charge.
