Hartley, Iowa — We recently told you that the Mayor of Hartley has stepped down.
According to Hartley City Clerk/Administrator Patty Anderson, mayor John Lyman submitted a letter of resignation on Wednesday, November 16th. The letter indicated that the resignation was effective immediately.
Lyman, whose term was set to expire at the end of calendar year 2017, did not give a reason for the resignation in the letter.
Anderson says mayor pro tempore Mary Westphalen will serve as mayor temporarily until another mayor can be chosen.
She says the Hartley City Council met on Friday night in special session to discuss the matter. She says no decision was made at that meeting, so another meeting is being scheduled for next week to decide how to proceed. She says they have two options, which are appointing a mayor to fill out Lyman’s term, or calling a special election to elect a mayor to fill out the term.
Anderson says Lyman was not present at Friday’s meeting.
