MidAmerican Energy Buys ThermoCell Property

Sheldon, Iowa — At Monday’s meeting of the O’Brien County Board of Supervisors, the supervisors passed a resolution to allow the sale of the former ThermoCell building in south Sheldon to MidAmerican Energy Company.

O’Brien County Auditor Barb Rohwer tells KIWA that MidAmerican became the owner of the property after the supervisors approved the sale. According to Rohwer, the utility bought the Tax Certificate on the property, at a cost of $3,603.23. That amount is the total of two years’ of back real estate taxes ($454), interest costs and fees ($3,049.23), and Assignment Fees in the amount of $100.

Rohwer tells KIWA that she delivered the property’s deed to the O’Brien County Recorder for transfer Tuesday morning. She says MidAmerican Energy indicated to the supervisors that they would be boarding up the building soon, and intend to demolish it sometime next year.
