Northwest Iowa — As we know, northwest Iowa gets cold in the winter. And winter is approaching. But MidAmerican Energy is saying that when they peer into their crystal ball, they don’t see the same high prices for natural gas that others are predicting.
MidAmerican spokesperson Geoff Greenwood tells us that of course, it’s all relative and is mostly speculation, but there are some clues.
He says they’ve also had some help from weather predictions.
But while they don’t predict overly high prices for natural gas, he says it’s always a good idea to conserve. And if the prices DO go up significantly, conservation is that much more important. He gives us some ideas.
Greenwood also suggests a programmable or smart thermostat. He says it doesn’t have to be as warm in your home while you’re sleeping or away, and with some thermostats, you can program them to come up to temperature by the time you wake up or get home. Some also have an app that allows you to adjust the temperature from anywhere with your smartphone.
He says having enough insulation is also important. And if you don’t know if you have enough, maybe call a contractor to check.
Greenwood tells us about another resource.
