Monday Is The Big Day At Sheldon Celebration Days

Sheldon, Iowa — Sheldon puts the wraps on the summer festivals this Labor Day with the final day of Celebration Days, 2018.

The Fly-In Pancake Breakfast and Aircraft Display is taking place at Sheldon Regional Airport until 11 this morning. From 9 to noon, the Union Depot Open House and Guest Artisan Demonstrations will be at the historical Sheldon Depot. Enjoy free popcorn and lemonade. Kids can create their own monster, mermaid or unicorn slime. Also from 9 to noon, and again after the parade until 6, the Sheldon Prairie Museum will be open. That’s downtown at Fourth Avenue and Tenth Street. You can tour the 1908 Carnegie Library display.

Arts and Crafts are in the park, with crafters and vendors in City Park from 9 to 4. Those are also the hours of the Classic Car Show at the Sheldon High School parking lot. This year, there’s also a classic truck category.

The Veterans Opening Ceremony will be at the City Park Armed Services Memorial at 10 a.m.

The Prairie Arts Historical Park on Highway 18 is open from 10 to noon. From 10 to 4, the Hy-Vee Health Mobile will be available. Get your blood pressure, blood sugar, and BMI checked. Inflatables, a mini Ferris wheel, and a mini train will be available on the west end of City Park from 10 to 4:30. Food booths will be open in the City Park all day.

What many would consider the main event — the Sheldon Celebration Days Parade takes place downtown at 2 p.m.

The Noon Kiwanis Duck Dive drawing will be at approximately 3:30 p.m., immediately following the parade. Also right after the parade is the Omaha Street Percussion performance in City Park.

There’s entertainment in the park from 11 to 1. See and hear live music from Thistle & Lace. See comic juggler Steve Russell and comic magician Jerry Frasier — they’ll both be strolling through City Park from 11 to 1. Mr. Twister will be doing balloon art for the kids in the park too, but he’ll get there earlier and stay later. His hours will be from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and then again from 3:30 – 4:30 p.m. He’ll be under the big red tent near the inflatables.
