More Severe Weather On Monday

Northwest Iowa — After Friday night’s tornadoes in Osceola County and areas to the north, area residents thought Mother Nature might settle back into normal August weather, but she had other ideas.

While there were no watches or warnings in effect Monday morning, Osceola County saw heavy rains and some hail.  Shortly before noon on Monday, the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office at Sibley reported heavy rains, and said that pea-sized hail had fallen, but “just for a few minutes”.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch was placed into effect for the entire KIWA listening area Monday afternoon, and was set to expire at 7:00 Monday evening.

About 2:15 Monday afternoon a Severe Thunderstorm Warning was issued by the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls for southwestern Lyon, as well as western Sioux, and Plymouth counties here in northwest Iowa.  That warning expired at 3:00 Monday afternoon.

Shortly after 3:00 the heaviest rains passed through the Sheldon area, dropping more than an inch of rain.  The fast moving system was moving off to the east at about 45 miles per hour.

As of 4:00 Monday afternoon, we have heard no damage reports from the storm that rumbled through the area.
