Mother Of Slain Phoenix Cop Is Graduate Of Sheldon High School

phoenix-police-departmentSheldon, Iowa — A Phoenix, Arizona Police Officer who was shot and killed in the line of duty earlier this week, has ties to this area.

On Wednesday, Phoenix Police Officer David Glasser was shot while responding to a burglary in progress call at a Phoenix residence.  When the officers arrived on the scene, they reportedly encountered a man sitting in a van in the driveway of the home.  Police say the subject immediately opened fire on the officers, striking Officer Glasser.  Officer Glasser was reportedly flown to a Phoenix hospital, where he died of his wounds the following day.

Officer Glasser’s mother, Judy Glasser, whose maiden name was Judy Van Otterloo, graduated from Sheldon High School in 1975.  According to Sheldon school records, she also had an older brother, Curtis Van Otterloo, who graduated from Sheldon High in 1973.

According to one of Judy’s classmates, her father, Garrit Van Otterloo, passed away when Judy and Curtis were young.  It’s not known if any relatives still reside in northwest Iowa.
