Sheldon, Iowa — A military Blackhawk helicopter, carrying a pair of Iowa Army National Guard Brigadier Generals, along with other military personnel, landed at the Sheldon Regional Airport Tuesday morning for a visit to the Iowa National Guard Armory in Sheldon.
Lt. Colonel Randall Stafford was one of the contingent to fly in to Sheldon Tuesday, and he told KIWA that the Generals’ visit isn’t an inspection tour.
Colonel Stafford says the Iowa National Guard is at better than full-strength.
He says the Generals come out to each armory because the Iowa National Guard is one big family.
Colonel Stafford says the group had been scheduled to visit the armory at Estherville before coming to Sheldon Tuesday morning, but the snow caused them to get a late start on their flight from Des Moines to northwest Iowa. When the group left Sheldon, they were headed to visit the National Guard Armory in Le Mars.
