Sioux Center, Iowa – A northwest Iowa institution of higher learning is one step closer to its goal in Sioux Center.
Northwest Iowa Community College (NCC) officials tell us they are, “thrilled to announce that enrollment is now open for high school students to join the Sioux Center Academy.” They say that the unique opportunity, starting in the fall of 2024, is designed for students entering their junior year of high school and offers specialized career pathways in Education, Engineering and Design, Healthcare, Information Technology, and Welding.
According to NCC officials, the program, created in collaboration with local school districts, aims to provide students with a head start on their careers by offering both high school and college credits in specific career fields.
They tell us that the Career Academy is an innovative educational model that integrates high school and college curricula into a cohesive program, allowing students to explore and prepare for their future careers. They say the program offers hands-on learning experiences, industry partnerships, and rigorous coursework to equip students with the knowledge and skills needed in their chosen professions. And, that it’s a “…fantastic opportunity for students to gain insights into their career interests and make informed decisions regarding their future.”
NCC officials say that some of the key benefits of utilizing the career academy are the fact that there are no tuition costs, you can explore a wide variety of career paths within your field of interest, you can gain hands-on experience, it’s time efficient, and you can earn industry-recognized certifications. They also emphasize the availability of focused career preparation and college transition support.
