NCC Fall Enrollment Down Slightly

Sheldon, Iowa — Northwest Iowa Community College reports that enrollment rates this fall are down slightly.

Numbers show that the decrease is noticeable from the record breaking numbers of fall last year. In 2019, NCC registered around 1,777 students. In 2020, around 1,666 students were registered for classes, making this about a 6% decrease between years.

However, this may not be a completely bad thing according to Dr. John Hartog, Vice President for Academics and Student Services. He says that there are some bright spots to be taken away from it.

“While no one wants to report lower numbers than the year before, when we dig down and really analyze the numbers there are some bright spots. One of those bright spots is New to NCC Student numbers are up by just over 3.50% over last year’s incoming class. Also, when you look at the numbers historically, this year’s fall class is the 4th largest incoming class overall to NCC, the largest since 2017.” Hartog continued, “This also represents an 86% overall increase in enrollments since fall of 2000 in which NCC had 897 students. That’s not bad considering some of the circumstances and challenges everyone is facing right now.”
