New Sanford Clinic In Rock Rapids Will Open May First

Rock Rapids, Iowa — The new $5 million Sanford Clinic in northwest Rock Rapids is almost complete.

Tammy Loosbrock, who is Sanford Rock Rapids’ Senior Director gives us an update.

She says while the facility will be open for a few days beforehand (on May 1st), the Saturday, May 4th grand opening will kick off with a public ribbon cutting ceremony at 1 p.m. and the open house will run until 3, and everyone is invited.

Loosbrock says she’s really enjoyed working with the teams and the local representatives that have made it all possible. She says they’ll have a lot of the same providers that people know and are familiar with, and they’re eager to begin serving people from their new facility, with updated technology.

Meanwhile, according to Merrill Pioneer Community Hospital Board Chairman Jim Vander Woude, the recommendation of the MPCH board is to repurpose the site of the old hospital for residential development. He says the recommendation still needs the approval of the MPCH membership. According to Vander Woude, a date for a membership meeting has not been set. But according to a report from a recent Rock Rapids Public Works Committee meeting, Gary Kurth of DGR Engineering is said to have told the committee that, “Demolition of the old (current) hospital facility is scheduled for later this summer.”

The new Avera hospital in a new subdivision on the southwest part of Rock Rapids is ALSO slated to open on May 1st.
