Sheldon, Iowa — The new artificial turf at Sheldon High School has been used for its first game, and is in use.
That’s from Sheldon Community Schools officials, who tell us that the first official game took place on Monday, August 29th on the new turf field. The Sheldon 9th and JV football teams got to play the first games on the new surface when they played Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley.
Sheldon High School Activities Director Eric Maassen tells us the varsity football team doesn’t play their first home game until September 16th. So the varsity Orabs will play their first official game on the new turf when they meet the Okoboji Pioneers that Friday night.
Maassen tells us they are finalizing plans for a ceremony and hope to have an announcement about that soon. He says they’ve been working together with a lot of people.
The $1.4 million turf project is a collaboration between the Sheldon Community School District, Northwest Iowa Community College, the City of Sheldon and many commercial and private donors who banded together to make the project happen.
