New Turf Field Project Scoreboard Is “On Its Way”

Sheldon, Iowa — The new scoreboard for the Orab Football Field, which is part of the Sheldon Community Schools-NCC-City of Sheldon Turf Project, should be up this week, according to Sheldon Superintendent Cory Myer.

Myer reported to the Sheldon School Board during their Wednesday meeting that the support beams for the scoreboard are in place, and the scoreboard install will occur very soon. Thursday morning, Myer told KIWA that he has learned the scoreboard was on a truck and on its way to Sheldon. Myer says the Turf Field project continues with dirt, drainage, and foundation work taking place this month and next, followed by installation of the turf field in August.

Also at Wednesday’s meeting, Myer reported to the School Board that the general contractor for the Lil Orabs Preschool facility, along with a couple of their subcontractors, are finishing up a few cosmetic items and then their portion of the project will be complete.  He says additional items not in the initial scope of the project: kitchen cupboards/countertop will be installed when those items arrive, and the playground should be installed in July, with the retaining wall currently being installed.

In other action, the School Board made an adjustment to Activities Director Eric Maassen’s employment contract. Going forward, Maassen will serve not only as the District’s Activities Director, but will also take on the role of Assistant Principal for Sheldon High School.

The Board also opted to keep the cost of the Student Activity Ticket at $30.00 for the next school year. The cost of the Adult Athletic Activity Coupon Book will remain at $40.00 and the Student/Adult single admission tickets will remain at $6.00.
