Northwest Iowa — Besides coming together to support our preferred candidates, the Iowa Caucuses also give us a chance to hear what issues are important to our friends and neighbors, and of course, give our opinions as well.
In addition to selecting Presidential candidates and party officials, both parties also use the caucuses as a chance for people to bring up planks that can be considered for the party platform.
Several planks were suggested for the platforms in northwest Iowa caucuses. But party leaders emphasize that these are only suggestions at this point, and are not necessarily official planks as of yet.
On the Democratic side, these were among the issues suggested for planks in northwest Iowa:
Better funding for mental health care
Require all vehicles to work with E-85
Update Sustainable Agriculture Policy to be more farmer-friendly
Term limits
Prohibit US Government from selling weapons to any foreign country
Decriminalize marijuana
Healthcare for all
Regulate college education
Caps on prescription drugs
Expand Medicare
Continue support of disability rights
Raise the federal and state minimum wage
Call witnesses to make trials more fair
Support Roe v Wade
Cover insulin in Medicare
On the Republican side, these were among the suggested planks in northwest Iowa:
Iowa should remain a pro-life state.
Second amendment rights are very important.
Put Capital gain tax back to what it was before the ACA.
The State of Iowa should consider apportioning their presidential electoral college votes by congressional district – similar to Nebraska and Maine. One per congressional district & two for the statewide winner.
Advance the idea of a cold case unit for DCI.
Support incentives, regulations, programs that support small towns, rural businesses, schools, etc.
Make Constitutional carry amendment for U.S. Citizens, not permission from the government.
Delete ObamaCare completely.
Require definite steps to citizenship or those here illegally should leave.
Support legislation that specifies only two genders.
Support the First Amendment.
Support the right to life.
Balance the Budget.
Term Limits
Keep the Electoral College.
Support Law Enforcement & first responders.
Support our allies, especially Israel
Immigration Reform
Border defense.
Call for Voter ID.
Support building of the wall.
Support the Death Penalty.
