Northwest Iowa Deputy Wins National Recognition

Le Mars, Iowa — A northwest Iowa sheriff’s deputy has won national recognition for his actions this past December.

According to the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office, Stop Stick, Ltd, the makers of the Stop-Stick Tire Deflation Device recognized Plymouth County Deputy Connor Delfs with their “Hit of the Month” award for December of last year.

On December 12th last year, at approximately 2:25 pm, Plymouth County Dispatch received a 911 call of a bank robbery at the Iowa State Bank in Le Mars. Authorities say the suspects fled the scene in a U-Haul truck, which authorities observed traveling westbound out of Le Mars a short time later. Authorities attempted to stop the truck while operating their lights and sirens, but the U-Haul failed to pull over. The pursuit continued west until the truck turned south onto a county road. Deputy Delfs deployed his stop sticks and all the U-Haul truck’s tires were deflated, and a short time later the suspects were arrested.

Delfs’ deployment of the stop sticks was submitted to Stop Stick, and Delfs has been awarded the”Hit of the Month” winner for December, and will be in the running for the national “Hit King” for 2018.
