Northwestern Worship Team Releases First Album

Orange City, Iowa—A new album by the Northwestern College worship team is now available on all major streaming platforms.

Northwestern officials tell us “Agape” was recorded live during what they call “a powerful night of worship on campus.” The entire service can be viewed on YouTube, while eight songs and two Scripture passages can be heard on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, and YouTube Music.

Josh Kuipers serves as Northwestern’s director of worship. As such, he works with three teams of students throughout the year who take turns leading worship during chapel and the college’s Sunday night Praise and Worship. He says it was one member of those teams—Samantha Vermeer—who initiated and helped lead the project.

“This year, we’ve spent a lot of time as worship leaders praying that this campus would experience the love of God in a new and deeper way,” he says.

The self-sacrificial love of God—known as “agape” in Greek—became the theme of the album, and music was chosen based on that theme.

The album features the songs “How He Loves,” “Pieces,” “How Great Is Our God,” “Pour My Love on You,” Great Are You Lord,” “Bless the Lord,” “All Hail King Jesus,” and “Touch of Heaven/Alabaster Heart.” Two Scripture passages, Psalm 103 and John 12:1–3, are also included.

Kuipers and his team issued an open invitation to NWC students to come and participate in worship on the evening the album was recorded. Current students and recent graduates did the filming and video editing, and Kuipers mixed the audio.

The result is available for free via Wings Music Group, a Christian music distribution service.

“A lot of the hard work was figuring out how to do it,” Kuipers says. “We all had a really great time working on the album and have already seen how it has blessed people, so I definitely think we’ll do it again.”
