Number Of New Northwest Iowa Positive COVID Tests Rises, Total Deaths Remain Steady

Northwest Iowa — There have been no new COVID-related deaths in the four northwesternmost Iowa counties in the last several weeks. Positive cases are rising a little, however.

On August 9th, county health departments and medical facilities recorded 21 new positive COVID cases in the previous week. This week, there were 25 new cases. County-by-county, the news is mixed. There were two fewer positive reports in Sioux County this week, with 10 new positive tests versus 12 new positive tests a week ago. The number of new positive tests was also down in O’Brien county, with 6 positive tests last week and 5 this week. But in Osceola County, there was a small spike. They only reported one new positive test on the 9th, but 7 new positive tests in the week since that date. Lyon County was also up a little with 3 new positives this week and only 2 new positives last week.

COVID-related deaths in our 4-county area have stayed the same for several weeks. The total number of COVID deaths remains at 189.
