O’Brien And Lyon County Fairs To Wrap Up Thursday

Primghar and Rock Rapids, Iowa — Fair season in northwest Iowa is winding down. Sioux and Osceola counties had their fairs last week, and this week it’s been O’Brien and Lyon counties’ turn. Both of those fairs wrap up on Thursday.

At the O’Brien County Fair in Primghar, they’ll start Thursday off with awards and announcements, the livestock sale, and the new Project Ribbon Sale at 8:30. The 4H non-livestock exhibits are released from 8 to noon. The fair board states that “4H’ers and parents are expected and assigned places to help with cleanup.” And they say that lunch will be provided after cleanup. Later that night, it’ll be time for the fair dance. And that will run from 9 to midnight in Primghar.

At the Lyon County Fair in Rock Rapids, Thursday will begin like the other mornings with the flag-raising ceremony at 8 a.m. Also starting at that time will be the 4H and FFA Swine Show. Also at 8 a.m., the 4H building exhibits and open class exhibits will be released. At noon, all 4H and FFA livestock will be released. In the evening, they’ll have the 4H Foundation Supper and awards ceremony. The tractor pull will begin at 6:30, and Youth Fun Night will be from 7:30 to 10 p.m.

That wraps up the fair proper, but there is one more thing — the Lyon County Fair Board is giving everyone free admission to the Rapid Speedway regular races on Friday night.
