O’Brien County, Iowa — (Bell-Times-Courier) — O’Brien County Engineer, Scott Rinehart updated the O’Brien County Supervisors on April 21st about progress being made to bridges across O’Brien County. Graves Construction is managing 3 individual bridge projects in O’Brien County. One is north of Hartley, one is east of Sheldon and the last is P4 near Sutherland. The P4 bridge spans Waterman Creek and was destroyed in the 2018 flood.
Rinehart reported that the bridges near Sheldon and Hartley are nearing completion.
The piers for P4 are built. The center beam, cast in Nebraska, is expected to arrive Wednesday and be placed on the piers. Because of the 149 feet of span this bridge requires to meet DNR guidelines an unusual construction sequence was adopted. Normally, abutments are built at the banks before a beam is set. In this case, the crane can’t reach where it needs to in order to set the beam, so a place was built to place the crane to set the beam. Once the beam is set, construction on the abutments will begin. A completion date has not been set.
