O’Brien EMA Director Gives Tips On Contacting FEMA For Disaster Assistance

Primghar, Iowa — Flood recovery efforts continue in O’Brien County and across our coverage area.

We had a chance to talk with O’Brien County Emergency Management Director Jared Johnson. He says O’Brien County was recently added to the federal disaster area. He says it’s been a long time since O’Brien County has been part of a federal disaster area.

He says there are several ways to contact FEMA.

That phone number again is 800-621-3362. The website is disasterassistance.gov. Johnson says if you go in person, make sure to take all your documentation with you so it can be uploaded to your case.

But Johnson says if you do get a letter of denial, make sure you read the whole thing — because it could be fixed as simply as supplying missing information such as insurance information, ownership information, or something like that.

For more information, you can go to the O’Brien County EMA website at obrienema.org. He says if you’re wondering about the status of your case, it’s probably best to call the FEMA hotline number at 800-621-3362.

We’ll have more information from Johnson in the future, here at kiwaradio.com.
