Officials At Sibley-Ocheyedan Schools Restricting Access To A Locker Room

Sibley, Iowa — Officials with the Sibley-Ocheyedan Community Schools are limiting access to the high school boys’ locker room after what school officials say was “recent inappropriate behavior”.

A notice sent out to district patrons says effective today (Monday, 1/12), the boys locker room at Sibley-Ocheyedan High School will be locked at all times, and that there will be no dressing out this week for physical education classes. It goes on to say that for morning weights and practice, athletes WILL be allowed in the locker room; however, coaches will be the first in and last out. The notice states that keycard access to the locker room has been shut off for all high school and middle school students; however, access to the weight room will still be available.

Sibley-Ocheyedan Superintendent Stan DeZeeuw said on Monday that he could not comment on what happened, outside of what has already been stated. He said there is nothing else to state at this time, and that no further press release about this is planned to be issued. He says the issue has been addressed internally, and the necessary parties have been contacted.
