Matlock, Iowa — For those interested in the history of Matlock, or just history in general, they need look no further than the Matlock Museum.
Charlie Schwebach, the owner of the museum, has been hard at work converting an old building into the museum.
(as said) “It’s the old grocery store,” Schwebach explains, “That was built in 1915, and I redid it, sanded the floors, out varnish on the floors, redid the old ceiling back to the original 1915 coffee color.”
Schwebach says he has obtained many objects from Matlock’s past, such as old promotional materials from businesses back in the ’40s and ’50s, but he has more than that.
(as said) “I have a lot of photos of the year, of the town, when it burnt in 1909, and other things like when they built the elevator and stuff like that.” Says Schwebach.
Schwebach says he also has many different antiques that don’t necessarily have a lot to do with Matlock but still hold a lot of historical value, nonetheless. He says that if residents are interested in checking out the items that he has acquired, all they have to do is give him a call and set up a day and time to meet, no entrance fee is required. The number is (712) 738-4461.
