Sheldon, Iowa — The Sheldon City Council met in regular session on Wednesday evening, January 15, 2025.
Mayor Greg Geels and the council issued a celebratory proclamation for the 50th anniversary of Village Northwest Unlimited at the beginning of the meeting. Several Village employees and clients were present for the signing and stood for a picture with the mayor and council.
The council passed the consent agenda.
They next talked about painting the older (west) water tower. City Public Works Director Todd Uhl noted that the plan has been to get the new tank up and running before taking the old one out of service for the painting project. Now that that is complete, the council has approved the plans and specifications for the painting project. The tower will have similar graphics to the new water tower, but will be painted in a simpler theme. Uhl says that the painting will take place under a plastic cover, which he nicknamed a “raincoat” in order to limit paint from landing on cars, homes, or anything that is not the water tower.
The council voted to introduce a new Public Records Request Policy, the details of which can be seen with the agenda and accompanying paperwork for the meeting.
The council also introduced the Local Option Sales Tax (LOST) & Tax Increment Financing (TIF) budgets for FY26. Again, the details of which can be seen with the agenda and accompanying paperwork for the meeting.
