One New Death, But Only Six New COVID Cases Reported Here Wednesday

Northwest Iowa — One new death, but only six new positive results for COVID-19 were reported in the four northwesternmost Iowa counties on Wednesday, according to the Iowa Department of Public Health.

The death was that of a Lyon County resident. O’Brien County’s death total remains at 54, and Sioux’s remains at 67. Lyon’s is now 41, while Osceola’s remains at 14. The death toll for the area is at 176 since the pandemic began.

Sioux County reported four new positive results, with one each in O’Brien and Osceola counties. No new cases were reported in Lyon County. About twelve percent of northwest Iowans have tested positive for COVID since March 2020. Roughly one person in eight in this area has tested positive at some point since that time. Health officials remind us that the numbers only indicate people who have had a COVID test that came back positive. As with any other disease, the actual number of people who have had the disease is thought to be much higher.

Out of the 1,430 Lyon County residents who have tested positive for COVID-19, 1,339 of them have recovered, for a recovery rate of about 94%.
Out of the 4,709 Sioux County residents who have tested positive for COVID-19, 4,513 of them have recovered, for a recovery rate of about 96%.
Out of the 1,771 O’Brien County residents who have tested positive for COVID-19, 1,653 of them have recovered, for a recovery rate of about 93%.
Out of the 663 Osceola County residents who have tested positive for COVID-19, 633 of them have recovered, for a recovery rate of about 95%.

Osceola County currently has 16 active cases, which is unchanged in the last 24 hours. There were 64 in O’Brien County, which is also unchanged, and 50 in Lyon County, which is down four. Sioux County has 129 active cases, which is down four.
