One Week Left To Request Absentee Ballot For June 2nd Primary

O’Brien County, Iowa — The deadline is drawing near to request an absentee ballot for the June 2nd primary election.

O’Brien County Auditor Barb Rohwer says the deadline is just one week away.

(As above) “This year for the primary, the absentee ballot requests need to be in by five o’clock on Friday May 22nd. Not postmarked, they have to be physically received by five o’clock that day.”

Rohwer tells us what happens once your absentee ballot request is received.

(As above) “Once we receive those requests, we process them and we send those ballots out….try to that same day. It just depends on the volume we get that day.”

Rohwer tells us that there are about 9,200 registered voters in O’Brien County, and as of the end of the day Wednesday, her office had received 1,880 requests for primary absentee ballots. She put that number in context by explaining that in the 2016 primaries, her office received a total of 286 absentee ballot requests, and for the 2016 general election, 2,114 requests. Rohwer predicts that this year’s primary total will surpass the total number of ballot requests for the 2016 general election.
