Open House At Lyon County Sheriff’s Office Draws Big Crowd

Rock Rapids, Iowa — Citizens of Lyon County got a chance to see the inner sanctum of law enforcement and emergency personnel Thursday evening.

An open house and tour of the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office and Emergency Center was offered and turned out to be very popular, according to Lyon County Sheriff Stewart Vander Stoep.

He tells us about the evening.

Vander Stoep says he’d have liked to show people the jail, but due to the rights of the inmates, tours of the jail are not allowed. But he told us what people would have seen. He says there are no bars like people think of when they think of jail.

He tells us where the idea for the open house came from.

He says they only planned one dog program, but since they had so many people they did it twice.

Sheriff Vander Stoep says they were very pleased with the outcome of the event, and he says it was a lot of fun.
