Sheldon, Iowa — A Sheldon native who currently attends school is Texas, has been accepted into the United States Marine Corps Band, even though her enlistment in the Marines doesn’t happen until next spring.
Mallorie Jones is currently a student at Lonestar College in Woodlands, Texas, but is set to join the Marines this spring. The 2016 Sheldon High School graduate tells us how she decided to enter the military.
Despite not having even attended Basic Training yet, Mallorie has been accepted into the USMC Band.
We asked Jones if she intends to make the military her career.
She says her Marine Corps recruiter has been helping her a great deal on her journey toward joining the Corps.
She says that once she completes basic training she’ll be sent to the United States Marine Corps Naval School of Music for about six months, after which she’ll learn where she is to be stationed.
Jones is a 2016 graduate of Sheldon Community High School where she played both flute and alto saxophone in the Orab band.
