Order Materials Now For Snowshoe Making Class

Sutherland, Iowa — While winter may not officially arrive for another month, the O’Brien County Conservation Board is ready to help you prepare for winter recreation activities. The Conservation Board is again offering the opportunity to handcraft beautiful snowshoes.

Conservation Board officials tell us that this year the class will be held at the Prairie Heritage Center on Saturday, December 1st beginning at 1:00 p.m. However, orders for materials MUST be made by this Thursday, November 15th.

According to board officials, there are several models to choose from. The Expedition Kit (which includes wooden frames) come in three styles – Ojibway, Huron and Bear Paw. Each kit includes the frame, nylon cording and binding. The material cost is $170.

They tell us that another alternative is the Urban Kit (which includes an aluminum frame). The material cost for this type is $95. Once finished, they tell us the shoes are not only incredibly serviceable but also are an object of beauty.

For more information about the class, the different styles, or to order your materials, call the Prairie Heritage Center at 712-295-7200. Again, the materials have to be ordered by this Friday.
