Northwest Iowa — Of course, Labor Day weekend is the weekend for Sheldon’s Celebration Days. But Celebration Days is not the only festival going on.
Each year, Sutherland has their Labor Day Celebration and Hawarden has their Big Sioux River Days — also during Labor Day Weekend.
This year in Sutherland, they’ve got a run/walk, a slow pitch tournament fundraiser, a bean bag tournament and live music on Saturday. Sunday sees a church service in the park, food downtown, a cruise-in car show & shine, a tractor ride, a burnout contest, a car and side-by-side cruise and fun run, a celebration of the 40th anniversary of the Sutherland Tigers 1983 State Football game, and more live music that night. Monday, there’s a sausage and pancake breakfast, a craft fair, a parade, lots of choices for food, volleyball and bean bag tournaments, kids water fights and bucket brigade, a saddle club fun day and kids races.
In Hawarden on Saturday, there’s a coin hunt, a vendor fair, a color run, a barbeque contest, a quilt show, and a demolition derby. On Sunday, the vendor fair continues, there’s a golf tournament, a little miss crowning, a quilt show, pickleball, games, a softball game and fireworks. Monday starts with a belgian waffle feed, the vendor fair continues, there are lots of food options, somehow they’re going to do sleigh rides, there will be a petting zoo, a parade, and much more.
