Sheldon, Iowa — The City of Sheldon’s effort to enforce the City Code sections on nuisance properties in the City is going well, according to City Manager Sam Kooiker. In fact, Kooiker says, one property the City has had in it’s sights for a few years is now seeing some action.
He says the property located at 721 8th Street has been abandoned for about three years.
Kooiker says now the owner of that property has listed it for sale with a local realtor.
He says the City is conducting ongoing enforcement of its nuisance ordinance and they’ve been pretty successful doing so.
In recent months an abandoned box car house was demolished and the new owners of the property are planning to move another house onto that lot. In addition, the burned-out building that once housed a can redemption center on West Park Street is set to be demolished later this fall, and the former Sheldon Motel property on South 2nd Avenue is moving closer to being abated. And Kooiker says there are other nuisance abatement projects going on in the community now, as well.
Kooiker says the house at 721 8th Street would make a good project for somebody who wanted to renovate and flip it, renovate it and live in it, or demolish it and build a new home on that corner.
