Sheldon, Iowa — The Sheldon Community School District and Northwest Iowa Community College Turf Project has received a shot in the arm in the form of a sizeable donation from a Sheldon bank.
According to a social media post by Orab Activity Director Eric Maassen, Peoples Bank has donated $25,000 to support the project.
At last report, $177,000 is yet to be raised to meet the project’s $1.4 million goal.
The turf upgrade is a collaborative project between the Sheldon Community Schools, Northwest Iowa Community College and the City of Sheldon. The new playing surface will be used for the Orab football team, soccer program and the marching band. Additionally, Northwest Iowa Community College will be utilizing the grounds when they begin their intercollegiate soccer program, which is slated to begin in Fall 2024.
The goal is to have fundraising completed before December 31, 2021. Groundbreaking for the project is slated to begin next Spring, with use by the Sheldon Community Schools in the Fall of next year.
