Rock Rapids, Iowa — Details are scant at this time, but officials at Central Lyon Community School District are telling us that someone who had access to students is the subject of an investigation.
Central Lyon Superintendent Brent Jorth says that the district has been informed by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) that a non-district employee, who has had interactions with students, is the subject of an ongoing investigation. Jorth says that the individual under investigation no longer has access to students or school facilities.
In a statement, Jorth says, “The safety of the students at Central Lyon is taken extremely seriously, and these allegations are considered severe. The district is cooperating with the DCI and Lyon County Sheriff’s Office. We know that our entire school community is as stunned as we are by this news.”
He tells us that the district will continue to cooperate with law enforcement and will do everything possible to “keep students’ safety, needs, and education first and foremost.”
Jorth says the district cannot comment further on the pending investigation.
