Sheldon, Iowa — The porch of a Sheldon home was damaged in a fire on Friday, May 1, 2015.
According to Sheldon Fire Chief Jerry Meyer, the Sheldon Fire Company was dispatched about 12:45 PM to a porch fire at 721 Fourth Street.
He says when they got there, some smoke was seen coming from the eves and roof vents.
Meyer says it was found that the front porch light had started a fire in the attic insulation. He says the attack was from the attic and the ceiling of the porch was torn off from below.
Firefighters used minimal water to put out the fire, and the burnt attic insulation was removed from large area around the light.
He says about 15 firefighters responded, and they were on the scene for about 2 hours.
Meyer says there were no injuries and a dollar value of the damage is not available, and that the fire was called in by the resident of the home.
