Northwest Iowa — The number of positive COVID test results in the four-county area of O’Brien, Sioux, Lyon and Osceola continues to rise, according to information from the Iowa Department of Public Health.
According to this week’s report, Sioux County has reported 109 positives this week, that’s 19 more than the total for the previous week. O’Brien County reports 33 new positives, up 12 from the week before, Lyon County saw 27 positive results, up two from last week, while Osceola County’s total of 9 positives for this week, is a decrease of eleven from the previous week. Altogether, the four-county area reports 178 total new positives, an increase of 22 from the numbers a week ago.
The good news in this week’s numbers come in the form of no additional COVID-related deaths in the four-county area in the past seven days. That’s tempered, of course, by the fact that 198 of our friends and neighbors have succumbed to a COVID-related illness since the beginning of the pandemic; 77 in Sioux County, 61 in O’Brien County, 42 in Lyon County and 18 in Osceola County.
The percentage of adults who have been fully vaccinated against COVID inched up this week. O’Brien County leads the way in the four-county area at 60.1%, Osceola is next with 53.5% of adults having taken the stick, Sioux County sits at a 51.2% adult vaccination rate, while Lyon County brings up the rear with 50.9% of adults who are fully vaccinated.
Buena Vista remains at the top of the adult vaccination list in the state, with 79.5%. The lowest vaccination rate in Iowa is southern Iowa’s Davis County, where just 46.3% of that county’s adults have taken the stick.
