Northwest Iowa — The price of retail gasoline in Iowa rose $.10 this week, closing at $2.34 per gallon.
Experts tell us that the price of gas is linked to the price of crude oil. The price of global crude oil rose this week on the West Texas Intermediate by $.24 per barrel over last week, currently priced at $57.16.
As of the beginning of this past week, the price of regular unleaded gasoline averaged $2.34 across Iowa according to AAA. This is $.10 higher than the previous week and $.18 lower than one year ago. The national average was $2.41, up $.05 from the previous week’s price.
Retail diesel fuel prices in Iowa rose $.06 from the previous week’s price with a statewide average of $2.87. One year ago, diesel prices averaged $2.95 in Iowa. The current Iowa diesel price is $.11 less than the national average of $2.98.
Around northwest Iowa this past week, for a gallon of self-serve unleaded with ethanol, Hartley reported the highest price at $2.39. The lowest price in that timeframe was found in Hull, with $2.20. Sioux Center and Sheldon were at $2.24. The price found in Sibley was $2.27. Orange City, Rock Valley, and Primghar had an average price of $2.29. The average price found in Sanborn was $2.35. So prices were on both sides of the state average.
For diesel fuel, the high price was reported in Rock Valley at $2.94. In Sioux Center, it was $2.84. In Sheldon, it was $2.80, and in Orange City, it was $2.75. Prices for diesel were also on both sides of the state average.
