Ribbon Cut On New Mexican Store & Snacks

Sheldon, Iowa — The Torres family is expanding their business ventures in Sheldon.

The family already ran a taco truck, and now they’ve opened Torres Mexican Store & Snacks. A ribbon was cut on Friday morning to celebrate the business expansion.

Sheldon Chamber and Development Executive Director Tania Herrera Gonzales spoke on behalf of the SCDC.

Mayor Greg Geels spoke on behalf of the City of Sheldon.

KIWA’s Skip Tanner spoke on behalf of the Sheldon Ambassadors.

Torres Mexican Store & Snacks owner, Saturnino Torres, tells us about their store.

He says while their featured items are snacks and ice cream, they also have a full Mexican grocery store, and sell other items as well, including authentic Mexican piñatas. In fact, he says many items are imported from Mexico.

The store is open seven days a week. Monday through Saturday they’re there from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The store is located in the building previously occupied by La Michoacana, on 9th Street, just east of J&B Bar, just off Old Highway 60, or 2nd Avenue. If you’ve been familiar with Sheldon for some time, you may also remember it as an earlier location of the Chinese Chef.
