Ribbon Cut On New Sheldon Vision Care Location

Sheldon, Iowa — About a month ago, Sheldon Vision Care relocated from their downtown Sheldon location to their new home which is located in the old Hy-Vee building across from the City Park on Highway 18 in Sheldon. The ribbon was officially cut on their new location Friday morning.

A group of local dignitaries, along with several Sheldon business people, were on hand to congratulate Dr. John Michels and his staff on their new facility. Sheldon Development Director Curt Strouth spoke on behalf of the Sheldon Chamber and Development Corporation and talked about how it was  great to see a reinvestment in the community.

(As above) “I certainly want to congratulate Dr. John Michels and his whole staff on this accomplishment. What a great reinvestment into our community! We certainly love to see our existing businesses grow and expand, I mean that’s what we’re all about. Also just want to welcome Dr. Mullally to town, as well. I know she’s recently bought a house, and I got a chance to talk to her a little bit again this morning, too. (She’s a) Great addition to your staff, Dr. Michels. Your staff up front, just a great, great organization. On behalf of SCDC, congratulations and we wish you nothing but the best going forward.”

City Manager Sam Kooiker reminisced a bit about his time working in the building, during his younger years.

(As above) “Being in this building is a walk down memory lane for me. I can still envision where the potato chips used to be…I worked for Hy-Vee in the early 90s, and I’m excited to see this building be revamped and revitalized. It’s been a great building for a lot of years, but it’s been underutilized since Hy-Vee moved to their new location, so it’s really exciting to see Dr. Michels and the investment he has made in our community.”

Ambassador’s Club President Skip Tanner spoke on behalf of the Ambassadors, and presented Dr. Michels with a plaque to commemorate the ribbon cutting.

(As above) “Dr. Michels, on behalf of the Ambassadors, I’d like to present to you a plaque with a piece of the ribbon cutting this morning and read the plaque. It says, ‘Congratulations! Wishing you the best of luck. May the confidence you’ve shown in the future of this community be rewarded with many years of success. As a keepsake, we wish to present to you a section of ribbon from the ribbon cutting.'”

Dr. Michels told those gathered about the year-long project resulting in the new location.

(As above) “This has been a huge process…this has been basically a year-long project from start to finish. From having the vision for…again, like Sam said, I worked here as a high school student and was mentored by some of the great leaders in Hy-Vee when I was young, and that’s just coming full circle now. From the purchase a year ago, to the design and layout process, to the construction with Poppema-Sikma, to fruition a month ago when we opened up here. My team has delivered a ton of great care, and this facility should allow us to provide world-class care for decades to come. So it’s been an outstanding experience and we’re glad to be here for the Grand Opening.”

Dr. Michels says this new facility incorporates technology into every aspect of the patient’s care.

(As above) “The technology is unbelievable. From the first phone call we have with the patient, to the patient care itself, to dispensing glasses, technology touches everything we do now. And this facility will allow us to grow our technology footprint for years to come.”
