Sioux Center, Iowa (KSOU) — Community First Broadcasting Staff had a chance to visit with Congressman Randy Feenstra recently. Feenstra is one of several Republicans seeking their party’s nomination for Governor of Iowa.
Feenstra says lowering costs for Iowans is a central focus of his campaign.
Feenstra says property tax relief would be a priority from the start of his administration.
Feenstra adds that his plan would protect funding for essential services, including law enforcement, fire departments, schools, and infrastructure.
In addition to tax policy, Feenstra says his vision for Iowa centers on economic growth, education, and workforce development. He says Iowa must remain competitive in attracting and retaining businesses while ensuring young Iowans have access to quality education and job opportunities close to home.
Feenstra says, adding that economic policy should allow families to keep more of what they earn.
Health care access — particularly in rural Iowa — is another pillar of Feenstra’s platform. A Sioux County native, he points to his background as a volunteer EMT in Hull as shaping his approach.
Feenstra also drew a sharp contrast with Democratic candidate Rob Sand, arguing that the race represents a clear choice for voters.
He criticizes Sand’s positions on taxes, border security, and social issues.
Feenstra frequently connects his policy priorities to his northwest Iowa roots.
Feenstra grew up in Hull, raised his family in Sioux County, and describes early work experiences in the community as foundational to his values and work ethic.
Before serving in Congress, Feenstra worked in the private sector, taught business at Dordt University in Sioux Center, and served in several local and state leadership roles, including Hull City Administrator and Sioux County Treasurer. He later chaired the Iowa Senate’s Ways and Means Committee, where he says he helped write and pass the largest tax cut in Iowa history.
Feenstra says his goal as governor would be to keep Iowa affordable, strengthen rural communities, and ensure future generations can build their lives in the state.
