Des Moines, Iowa — Twenty-four Iowa communities have entered a contest sponsored by the Iowa Finance Authority. The prize is a custom water tower graphic wrap, designed by an Iowa artist, that officials say will make their water tower as inspiring as their town. Rock Rapids is one of the communities that have entered the contest.
Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds announced the contest at this year’s Iowa State Fair. The contest stresses the importance of water within communities, as well as community pride.
The water tower graphic wrap is something that the community places on their water tower if they win. The wrap is designed by Iowa artist Laura Palmer.
The Iowa Finance Authority has set up a special website at which people can watch videos from each of the towns in the contest and can vote for the one that they want to win the contest. The only stipulation is that you have to have a Facebook account to vote for your favorite community video. You may vote once in a 24-hour period from now through October 11th at 5:00 p.m. The winning community will be announced the week of October 14th. It is purely a popular vote, so the community that receives the most votes will be the winner.
Other nearby communities that have entered include Arnolds Park, Garner, Ruthven, and Lake View.
