Rock Rapids Man Arrested After Pursuit

Rock Rapids, Iowa — A Rock Rapids man has been arrested after a chase in Lyon County on Tuesday, March 6th.

Twenty-five-year-old Christopher Freeman of Rock Rapids faces charges of domestic assault and eluding law enforcement, both serious misdemeanors. He was also charged with speeding, failure to obey a traffic control device, failure to maintain control and operating without a valid license.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office reports that the incident started as a domestic assault call in Rock Rapids. The responding deputy learned the suspect had fled the scene. A description of the vehicle was provided to other responding deputies.

The Sheriff’s Office says one of those deputies located the vehicle in question on Highway 9 near Jackson Avenue, about five miles east of Rock Rapids. As the deputy began to turn around to contact the vehicle, the Sheriff’s Office reports that it sped off.

They say that a short pursuit took place ending on Jefferson Avenue near 215th street, just west of George, when the vehicle failed to negotiate a corner and went into the ditch.

They report that Freeman was taken into custody without further incident.
