Sanborn, Iowa — The COVID-19 pandemic has claimed another traditional northwest Iowa summer celebration. The Sanborn Chamber of Commerce has announced the cancellation of their annual Railroad Days celebration for this year.
According to information released by the Sanborn Chamber, they have decided not to hold Railroad Days this year due to the uncertainty and timing of the COVID-19 pandemic. Officials say the decision to cancel was not made lightly, but were afraid that the current pandemic, and the necessary precautions, could adversely affect the celebration.
According to the Chamber, the decision came down to timing, since there is no way to know what things will look like at the end of July this year.
The Railroad Days Committee says they’re now focusing their efforts on planning an even bigger and better Railroad Days for 2021.
The Sanborn Chamber thanks folks for their understanding and continued support, and hope you all have a safe and happy summer!
