Sanborn, Iowa — An area Christian school is celebrating it’s 100th birthday this weekend! Sanborn Christian School, located in Sanborn, officially began as an incorporated and approved school by the State Board of Education in 1917.
Sanborn Christian offers a complete Biblically-based curriculum in Preschool through 8th grade, the students participate in interscholastic activities and interscholastic athletics at the middle school level. Sanborn Christian is accredited by the State of Iowa as well as Christian Schools International.
Sanborn Christian Principal Anthony Minderhoud says it’s very exciting for Sanborn Christian to have been able to serve the Sanborn community for a century.
Minderhoud says Sanborn Christian School’s Centennial celebration, which has been scheduled to coincide with Sanborn’s annual Railroad Days Celebration, will begin Friday afternoon.
He says the centennial celebration continues with a variety of activities on Saturday.
This past spring Sanborn Christian School completed a $3-million expansion and renovation project that will take the school into its second century. Minderhoud says increasing enrollment led to that expansion project.
The completion of the addition effectively doubled the school’s footprint, and Minderhoud says it would never have been possible without the support of the school’s families and churches, as well as the Sanborn community and businesses.
Minderhoud called being able to celebrate Sanborn Christian’s 100th birthday, as well as all the support they’ve received over the years, “a blessing.”
