Sheldon, Iowa — The local hospital now has a new and better Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machine.
Sanford Sheldon Medical Center officials tell us that they recently installed a faster, more comfortable MRI machine. They tell us that the GE Healthcare MRI machine provides better image quality and has many advanced features, allowing Sanford Sheldon to provide high-quality care in a more comfortable and efficient environment.
Sanford Medical Center senior director, Rick Nordahl says, “Our goal is to provide the highest quality image to satisfy a wide range of medical needs and help providers make quicker diagnoses. Scans have gone from about 45 minutes per scan to 30 minutes per scan. In addition, the new MRI machine has a wider bore which means we can keep patients more comfortable.” He says the new machine decreases the claustrophobia concerns some patients have when receiving an MRI.
Nordahl goes on to say, “The MRI has air blanket coils that are comfortable and feel like a soft blanket, unlike the previous hard molded plastic coils in the previous MRI. The newly installed MRI machine is the newest equipment in the area and we can now scan some patients that we previously would not have had the ability to perform in Sheldon, keeping them close to home for their care.”
A community open house will be held on Friday, October 11, 2024 from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. in the Radiology area. Due to the street construction on Oak Street, attendees are asked to utilize the main hospital entrance on 7 th Avenue. Tours will be given and refreshments will be served.
Sanford officials tell us a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a non-invasive diagnostic imaging exam of soft tissue, bone, and muscle and is one of the fastest-growing types of medical diagnostic tests in the United States. The addition of this new wide-bore MRI machine to Sanford Sheldon radiology suite expands access to diagnostic imaging that supports a complete range of clinical applications in Sheldon.
