Sheldon, Iowa — Following a public hearing on the District Calendar for the 2022-23 school year, the Sheldon Community School Board approved the proposed calendar during their meeting Wednesday evening.
The first date of classes for the school year will be August 23rd, the earliest date allowed by state law.
In other action, the Board approved the Collective Bargaining Agreement for the 2022-23 school year with the Sheldon Education Association, the union representing the District’s teachers. Superintendent Cory Myer says the agreement with the union was reached fairly quickly.
Myer says the School Board also approved the purchase of a pair of used school buses. He says the reason for purchasing the used buses was partially financial.
He says the two new buses are from Thomas Bus Sales, Inc., and are two used 2019 Thomas C2 65-passenger extended school buses that each have less than 40,000 miles and come with the remainder of the Manufacturer’s Warranty on the Cummins Engines and Allison Transmissions.
In other action, Myer reported to the Board that the Little Orabs Learning Center renovation project is nearing completion, and they hope to have students in the facility next month.
