Sheldon, Iowa — The Sheldon Community Schools Board of Education got their first look at a proposed 2016-17 school calendar at Wednesday night’s meeting. The draft calendar would have the school year running from August 24, 1016 to May 26, 2017. The last day of classes before the Christmas break would be December 22nd, with classes resuming January 2nd. The draft calendar can be viewed by clicking here.
In other action the Board accepted the resignation of Julie Kavanaugh from her Special Education associate position at the Sheldon Middle School. They also approved a contract with Maggie Lloyd as Middle School Girls Basketball Coach at a salary of $2,345. In addition, they approved a trio of volunteer coaches: Wally Wolthuizen and Hayden Adkins as High School Wrestling Volunteer Coaches; and Matt Dykstra as High School Boys Basketball Volunteer Coach. The acceptance of Dykstra is contingent on his completion of Coaching Authorization requirements.
The Board also approved an education service contract for a school district resident receiving educational services in the MOC-Floyd Valley district.
The Board reviewed the District Developed Special Education Delivery Plan at Wednesday’s meeting. This is a move that is required every five years.
In other action, the Board approved Superintendent Robin Spears recommendation that a student be expelled for the remainder of the first semester for violation of the School District Code of Conduct.
The Board also appointed members Kecia Hickman and Jessica Brink to work with Superintendent Spears as the School District Negotiation Team.
