SCSO Swears In Three New Deputies; Promotes Four

Orange City, Iowa — There has been some movement among the ranks of the Sioux County Sheriff’s Deputies.

Sioux County Sheriff Jamie Van Voorst tells us they held a swearing-in ceremony this past week for the new Sioux County Sheriff’s Deputies and a promotional ceremony for two new lieutenants and two new sergeants.

He says the three newest additions of deputies are Deputy Gage Klein, Deputy Jake Harmelink, and Deputy Zachary McKee.

Promoted to Lieutenant were Deputy Justin De Bruin and Deputy Caleb Haverdink. Promoted to Sergeant were Deputy Brad De Kam and Deputy Chad Van Ravenswaay.

Van Voorst says, “Tonight was an awesome night! I am so proud of my team and the direction this office is heading in. I hope the citizens of Sioux County know that they are well-blessed in that their tax dollars are being invested in the highest quality law enforcement I believe we can get.”

Van Voorst says that not only do these new and promoted deputies possess what he calls “all of the training and abilities we would hope our law enforcement performs at, they possess such great character, integrity, loyalty and honor to their calling.”

Of the three new deputies, Harmelink comes to the sheriff’s office from the Orange City Police Department where he worked for just under one year as a patrol officer and is already a certified Iowa peace officer. Deputies Klein and McKee will still need need to attend the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy where Klein will be attending the fall basic academy and McKee the winter basic academy. He says that once they have graduated, they will both have attained their Iowa peace officer certification statues as well.

At the ceremony, all of these deputies were administered their Oath of Office as well as well as an Oath of Integrity and Honor.

Van Vorst says, “We were so pleased that so many family and friends came out to show support for their blue line family member; thank you for your participation and support!”
