Storm Lake, Iowa — A semi-trailer was destroyed and its load of soybeans ended up all over the place when it was struck by a train between Alta and Storm Lake on Thursday.
According to the Buena Vista County Sheriff’s Office, the accident happened just before 2:30 p.m. Thursday at 70th Avenue and Highway 7. A westbound 2005 International semi tractor-trailer turned off the highway onto 70th Avenue. The semi continued over the railroad crossing, and into the path of a westbound Canadian National Railway train. The train struck the trailer of the semi, which was loaded with soybeans.
No injuries were reported from the accident. The driver of the semi was identified as 35-year-old Gregory Hermstad of Webb.
The BV County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on the scene by the Storm Lake Fire Department, the Iowa State Patrol, and the Canadian National Railroad Police.
