Sentencing Date Set For 2nd Defendant In Lake Park Homicide

Spirit Lake, Iowa — The second person convicted in the December, 2020 murder of a Lake Park woman will be sentenced later this month.

According to online court records, sentencing for Allison Decker is scheduled for 10:00 am Friday, July 29, in Dickinson County District Court at Spirit Lake.

Decker faces a mandatory sentence of life with no chance of parole after being convicted of 1st Degree Murder, 2nd Degree Theft and Conspiracy to Commit Theft, in connection with the murder of Angel Bastman, whose lifeless body was discovered in the basement of her Lake Park home on December 22, 2020.

Decker’s partner in the crime, Justice Berntson, had originally faced charges identical to those against Decker, but he accepted a plea deal late last year, pleading guilty to a reduced charge of Attempted Murder, with the other charges dismissed. The same day Judge Shayne Mayer announced her guilty verdict against Decker, she sentenced Berntson to up to 25-years in prison, with credit for time served. He’ll have to serve 70-percent of his sentence before being eligible for parole or work release.
