Northwest Iowa — Severe Thunderstorms which may have contained tornadoes moved through the area Sunday late afternoon and early evening, with limited damage reported.
The first warning from the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls was issued at 4:10 Sunday afternoon and affected eastern Osceola County, as well as southeastern Nobles County in Minnesota. That Severe Thunderstorm Warning cautioned on the potential for winds of 60 mph and quarter-sized hail.
At 4:29 pm, the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls issued a Tornado Warning for central Osceola County, saying that radar had indicated rotation in the storm system. Meteorologist Alex Trellinger of the National Weather Service says assessments are still being done to determine if there was an actual tornado.
Trellinger says the only report of storm damage the Sioux Falls Weather Station had received by late Monday morning was from Osceola County.
Another Severe Thunderstorm Warning was issued at 4:50 Sunday afternoon, this time for southeastern Osceola, northeast O’Brien, southwest Dickinson and northwestern Clay Counties, warning of the possibility of 60 mph winds and golf ball sized hail.
The final warning was issued at 5:26 pm, when a Tornado Warning was issued for northeast O’Brien, southwest Dickinson and northwest Clay Counties.
With Sunday’s severe storms behind us, we asked Trellinger when we might see some relief from the high humidity levels we’ve been experiencing.
He says daytime temperatures in this area should top out in the mid to upper 80’s for the remainder of this week.
